My
favourite day on this trip to England was wednesday, september 25th
. The program of this day
was to visit Greenhead College in the morning and then return to
Chester go shopping and visit the city center. Chester is the city
where we stayed all the week. Before the trip, we had to make groups
from 2 to 4 persons and each group was assigned to a family where we
would sleep. I was with Nina and Louise. I
think it was a good idea to send us to families so that we could
communicate better and see how the English lives. It was a great
experience! Me and my friends met up
with a young mother named Magdalena and her four-year-old daughter
named Alice.They
had a little dog. There was also a Spanish girl named Alba, she was
15 years old, and she was staying in England for 3 weeks.
So, wednesday we had to get up early to take the bus
and do a few hours of travel to go to Greenhead College. I remember
finding the trip a bit long, probably because I was excited to visit
the college and see how classes were going in England. I saw a lot of
movies where we can observe colleges in England, I was enthusiastic
to see that for real. I
could not wait to meet my correspondent. But I was a little
apprehensive, how will my morning go? Is my correspondent nice? I was
a little afraid of being alone with a stranger for whole morning. But
that was good and I loved spent my morning at Greenhead college. I
loved to communicate with a girl of my age and to share our
differences. My correspondent was called Aliaa and was 17 years old
like me. She explained to me how the courses in England work and I
told her about the french system. We discussed a lot and exchange
about our lives. We also exchanged our social networks to keep in
touch.
To strat, I participed to a plastic art class with
Aliaa. It was the first morning course of Aliaa on Wednesday morning.
My correspondent had selected as subject art, French and Spanish. At
first, it was pretty destabilizing. Art classes in England are
absolutely not like the art classes that we can follow in France at
secondary school (college in France). The teacher had put on some
music and the students had to write all the feelings that this music
would give them. Then, all the students are going to sit down at a
table and then have to draw the feelings felt through the music
listen. I also participate in the class and make a nice drawing. In
the class where I was, the numbers of students were lower than the
number of students per class in France, they were about only fifteen
per class. I had already had art classes when I was younger. Attend
this type of course destabilize me knowing that the courses that I
follow in France are very serious and studious. In England, the
courses are more free. For example in art classes students are free
to move, the atmosphere is less academic and the teacher does not
necessarily assign notes regularly. I found it fun to participate in
an art class, it was a long time.
After the class is over, we had a small recreation of
15min. I found my french friends and spoke with them to find out how
their first class was spent. Everyone had enjoyed their first course
in England ! After the little recreation, Aliaa take me with her in
french class. This time, I met with several French students from my
school. During the french class, we did a game. We made several
groups of 3 english and 3 french, and the English had to present a
small presentation on the city of Belfort in french while we had to
present a small expose on the city of Hudderfield in english. So for
a few minutes we prepare our little presentations. And then, group
after group, we have to present our exposers in front of the teacher
of French as well as in front of Mrs. Berbon and Mrs. Pequiniot our
accompanying teachers during the trip. My group was elected the
winning group with the best pronunciation. But you must know that in
my group, there was an Englishwoman whose father is French and
therefore speak French well. I think that has tipped a lot in our
favor for the victory.
Once the French course finished, all English
correspondents and us the French ones, we ended up in a large room to
attend two presentations prepared by girls in my class. One of the
presentations focused on the English school system and the
differences with the French one. And the second presentation was
about restoration in France. That was the end of our Wednesday
morning. After that we are staying at college to eat. Some
correspondents could stay to eat with us but most of them are gone.
The rest of our day continues, we took the bus to
Chester. Originally, in the afternoon it was planned to visit an
industry museum but our teachers proposed to go shopping in the city
center of Chester and everyone has approved. So we went to Chester.
It is a nice city. We did not really have the opportunity to visit
this city which is a shame. But it does not matter because we could
go shopping and I love shopping ! It was a very good afternoon.
In the
evening we are returning to our families. When we got home we found
Alice and play with her to the doll, it was fun. We ate fries with
nuggets at the dinner, it was very good. The atmosphere at the table
was great, we chat and laugh a lot with Magdalena and Alba.
And here it is, the end of my favourite day.
Obviously this day was great but the others were also nice. This trip
was very intense and instructive. Thank you Mrs. Morchoisne.
