In Zabrado, behind that mountain, a well-known Pomak village, the Turk who converted Christians was nasty. The region is called "Tsirikouratsierva". It comes from "Tsirka" which means "crying" in Rhodopes' language. If you didn't accept the fez - therefore the religion - , the cruel Turkish pushed people off the cliff and they were screaming."
Here in Orehovo, faced with people who refused to convert, the Turkish leader decided to let them free but to settled 20 Turkish families. He hoped that it would change the mind of the people and that they will become Muslims. They cohabited very well, and helped each other: if a Christian family had an ox and a Muslim family had an other, they harnessed the two to plow the land.
The legend (the song) says: "there was a very beautiful girl who lived here. The Turk, head of the region, feld in love with her. "If you give Stanka, that girl, I won't touch you," he said. And when the Turkish chief came here, he came with nine people and ten horses. Which is the tenth ? It was for the girl and who left with them."
A midi, tu mangeais ton pain. Si t'étais plus riche, tu avais le droit à de la graisse de cochon ou une tranche de lard et du paprika dans ton sandwich avec de la sariette.

"The school has been replaced by the luxury hotel. Every morning we were tucked away to call outside and you do some physical exercises before going home. They were heated with a large stove. To heat the school, each child brings their wood in the morning. We had military bags for the book and two slices of pain. You eat your bread at school, if you're richer, you have the right to pig fat or a slice of bacon and paprika in your sandwich with savory."
