There are two very different cuisines in Lithuania: the traditional, unchanged for several centuries and cheap. Then the very good modern kitchen with many restaurant in the city.

These kitchens have integrated restaurant menus for the last ten years, and compete more and more with other cuisines of the world. Everyday cooking came to complete the picture : pizzas, burgers, etc.

Fast food has arrived for ten years ago which takes a little charm to the local cuisine. Traditional cuisine is usually tasty, but with lots of calories. It is inspired by Polish cuisine and obvious Russian before independence. Cafes and pubs allow good food without paying much and eating more than reasonably.

There are also inns and taverns that offer midday formulas with very inexpensive traditional dishes, often served until 15-16h. A soup and a dish rarely exceed 5-7 €. The cuisine is simple and diverse. The dishes are spicy and consist of fish, soups, pork, potatoes, cabbages, beets, and peas.

We will now to introduce you to one of the most famous local dishes, cepelinai are potato dumplings stuffed with pork, as for a large majority of Lithuanian cuisine and Baltic countries a large presence of potatoes. The cepelinai are served in sauce, this plat is part of the Lithuanian gastronomic heritage.
