Le samedi 3 septembre
2016, nous nous levons tôt pour prendre un bus, rejoindre Zhangye (à
45 minutes) et prendre notre train pour notre prochaine ville :
Jiayuguan. Nous savons qu’il est possible de prendre un bus devant
l’entrée du parc géologique. Une chauffeuse de taxi se propose de
nous emmener pour 4 fois le prix du bus. Nous déclinons la
proposition et partons à la recherche d’information concernant
l’heure et le numéro de bus. Au bout de 45 minutes, nous finissons
par trouver le fameux bus. Le chauffeur nous dit partir dans 20
minutes. On prend place. 2h30 plus tard, nous sommes toujours en
train d’attendre que le bus démarre ! Haaa ce sont les joies
du voyage.
On arrive toujours à bon
port mais parfois pas sans peine ! Mauvaises informations,
mauvaises directions, changements d’avis de notre interlocuteur,
retards et incompréhension de la langue nous confronte à la réalité
du voyage. Et finalement ce sont des anecdotes qui resterons dans nos
mémoires…et qui plus tard nous ferons rire !

On Saturday 3rd September, we wake up not too late to take
a bus to Zhangye (45 minutes far) and then the train to our next
stop : Jiayuguan. We know that it's possible to take the bus
near the park entrance. A taxi driver proposes us 4 times the price
of the bus, so we decline and try to know when the bus leaves and
from where. After a 45 min, we finally find it, and the driver tell
us that he will leave in 20 minutes. Finally 2h30 later, we are still
waiting that the bus leaves ! That's the deal of traveling.
We always arrive safely where we want, but sometimes not easily !
Wrong information, wrong direction, change of mind of our
intrelocutor, delays and misunderstandings due to the
language...that' the reality of traveling. But finally we will
remember them and laugh of them later.
Nous arrivons finalement à
la gare, ce qui nous aura presque pris la journée. Comme expliqué
précédemment, les couteaux sont interdits dans les trains et celui
de Julien est passé plusieurs fois in-extremis. Pour éviter qu'il
se le fasse confisquer, nous décidons donc de l’envoyer pas la
Poste. La postière nous répond que l’objet est trop dangereux et
refuse que nous l’envoyions ! Situation inextricable !
Finalement «l'objet du crime» sera découvert et abandonné dans
une gare quelques jours plus tard. Un conseil, n'amenez pas votre
inséparable compagnon avec vous en Chine.

We
finally arrive at the train station, which almost take us the whole
day. As explained before, knives are forbidden in trains and Julien
still has his by hazard from now. To avoid that his knife will be
seized,
we decide to send it by mail. But at the post office, they say that
it's also forbidden to send a knife by mail (how can it be
dangerous!?). So it seems that they are no solution... And finally
Julien will have to abandon it in another train stations few days
later. So if you plan to go to China, do not bring your beloved knife with
you.
Nous arrivons à Jiayuguan
en fin de journée après 2h30 de train. Sur le quai se trouve une
femme tenant un magasin ambulant de poulet et crêpes épaisses.
C’est impressionnant de voir les gens sortir du train, se
bousculer, essayer de crier plus fort que les autres pour passer
commande et remonter en courant dans le wagon avant que le train ne
parte. Nous commandons 2 cuisses de poulet et une crêpe pour le
dîner.

We arrive at Jiayuguan at the end of the day after
2h30 of train. On the plateform, there is a woman selling chicken and
thick crepe. It's impressive to see people going out of the train,
jostling,
shouting to order and then going back into the train before it
leaves. We order 2 chicken legs and one crepe for the dinner.
Après avoir marché,
demandé notre chemin, slalomé entre les motos électriques et pris
le bus, nous arrivons à notre hôtel au coucher du soleil, pas sans
peine encore une fois.

After walking, asking our way, avoiding electric motorbikes and
taking the bus, we arrive at our hotel for the sunset, not easily
again.
Nous faisons une
halte à Jiayuguan, car il s'agit du point le plus occidental de la
Grande muraille de Chine. Une forteresse construite en 1372 en marque
la fin et permettait le contrôle du corridor
de Hexi, formé par les montagnes enneigées Qilian d'un côté et la
Montagne Noire de l'autre. Le fort
est bien conservé, il fait 733 mètres de circonférence et presque
10 mètres de hauteur. Il se compose aussi de plusieurs tours, hautes
de 17 mètres, et de miradors. C'est une balade sympathique : il
n’y pas trop de monde et la vue sur les montagnes est jolie.

We visit Jiayuguan, because it the most western
point of the Great Wall of China. At the end, a fort was built in
1372, which allowed to control the Hexi corridor, surrounded by the
Qilian snowcapped mountains on one side and the Black Mountain on
another side. The fort is in good conditions, it's 733 meters circumference and 10 meters high. There
are also several tours, 17 meters high, and miradors. It's a quiet
nice walk : there are no so many people and the view on the
mountains is beautiful.
Il y a des vestiges
de la Grande Muraille à quelques kilomètres du fort, que nous
rejoignons en taxi. Après 15 minutes de route, nous arrivons au
fameux mur, où nous sommes quasiment seul. Cette partie de la
muraille fut construite en 1540 et restaurée en 1987. Il ne s'agit
certainement pas de la partie la plus impressionnante, qui n'est pas
très haute ni très large, mais tout de même. La
Grande Muraille de Chine est en fait un ensemble de fortifications,
qui ne forment pas un rempart unique, mais plusieurs tronçons.
Certains datent de plus de 2000 ans, alors que d'autres ont seulement
quelques centaines d'années. Au
total, l'ensemble fait plus de 6 000 km de long.
L'ascension n’est pas
une balade du dimanche et nous devons produire un certain effort pour
arriver au point le plus haut du mur mais la vue en vaut la peine !

Few kilometers near the fort, there are some rests
of the Great Wall of China. After 15 minutes of taxi, we arrive near
the famous wall, where we are almost amone. This part of the Wall was
built in 1540 and restaured in 1987. It's certainly not the most
impressive part, as it's not really high or width, but still it's the
Great Wall of China ! You have to know that it's not one wall,
but a
whole of fortifications. Some parts are more than 2000 years old, and
other only few centuries old. Totally it's more than 6,000 km long.
The way up until the highest point is not easy, but it's worth the efforts, the view is really nice there.
